During the 1980s and 1990s, Texas A&M University's student population swelled, accomodated by an explosion in new construction. The existing student union, the Memorial Student Center (MSC), was quickly becoming inaccessible to a growing number of students as the campus expanded. Therefore TAMU's student government, in conjunction with the administration of the MSC explored the possibilities of a satellite student union center to accomodate the West side of campus. The center was to become a new tradition of architectural excellence and remain as a symbol of Texas A&M's future.
